Dear Ms. Trent,
I'm applying for the Senior Project Manager position on your implementation team. I'm a PMP-certified project manager with eight years delivering software implementations, currently running a portfolio of four concurrent client projects worth $2.8M combined — 94% of my projects over the past three years delivered on time and within budget.
Your posting centers on ERP rollouts with cross-functional teams, which is where I've spent the past four years: I led a 14-month NetSuite implementation across finance, warehouse, and sales teams (60+ stakeholders), landing two weeks early and 6% under its $1.1M budget. Writing tips for Project Manager cover letters
- Lead with your certification (PMP, CSM, PRINCE2) and portfolio scope — dollar value, project count, team sizes. That's the screening layer; clear it in sentence one.
- Give two delivery proof points with the numbers that define the profession: on-time percentage, budget variance, timeline. 'Delivered successfully' is unfalsifiable; '6% under a $1.1M budget' is a record.
- Match your methodology language to their world — agile shop, waterfall enterprise, or hybrid — and say it plainly rather than listing every framework you've heard of.
