Executive Assistant Cover Letter Example
An executive assistant's cover letter is judged the way the job is judged: on polish, brevity, and anticipation. The reader — often the executive's current EA or a chief of staff — is checking what level you've supported, what you owned outright, and whether your writing could go out under an executive's name.
Use the structure below with your own scope, consistent with your executive assistant resume example.
The example letter
Dear Mr. Osei,
I'm applying for the Executive Assistant position supporting your CEO. For the past five years I've supported C-level executives — currently the COO and CFO of a 400-person healthcare company — owning calendars that average 40 meetings a week, complex multi-leg travel, and board meeting logistics for quarterly sessions with 12 directors.
Your posting emphasizes judgment and independent ownership, which is how my current role runs: I draft the COO's routine correspondence for her signature, manage a $150K annual travel and events budget, and screen the incoming requests that would otherwise consume her calendar — declining most of them without escalation. In five years supporting executives through two acquisitions, I've handled material nonpublic information without a single lapse.
I'm particularly interested in this role because it's a first-EA position for a founder-CEO. Building the support structure — the calendar rules, the travel profiles, the meeting rhythms — is the part of the job I do best, and I'd rather build it right than inherit someone else's.
I'd welcome the opportunity to discuss how I could take work off your CEO's plate from week one. Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Simone Aldrich
Writing tips for Executive Assistant cover letters
- State the level you've supported (C-suite, SVP, founder) and the concrete scope — meetings per week, travel complexity, budget owned. Level-match is the first screen in EA hiring.
- Show discretion with evidence, not adjectives: years around confidential material with zero incidents, board exposure, acquisition experience. 'Trustworthy' is claimed; a clean record across two acquisitions is demonstrated.
- Include one example of independent judgment — what you decide without escalation. Executives are buying back attention; the letter should prove you already know how to take things off a plate.
- Polish this letter beyond any other document you own: it's read as a sample of the correspondence you'd draft under the executive's name.
- If it's a first-EA seat or a rebuild, say why that specific situation suits you — structure-building and structure-inheriting are different jobs, and naming the difference reads as experience.
